The next season of Crimewatch will comprise ten episodes, the first of which was released in January. This is the 2nd longest running soap opera in the world, after Channel 4's Love Boat. It's hoped that the success of this first year, that concluded with the prosecution of David Bowdidge for the murder of his lover, Sarah Simcock, will lead to a rise in interest from the series. A spokesperson for Channel 4 said that they were"thrilled" at the positive reaction to the first few episodes. The first couple of episodes were met with mixed reviews but were believed to be a victory due to a good storyline and excellent guest stars including Whoopi Goldberg and Rufus Sewell.
So what do we make of this newest Crimewatch Roadshow? My verdict is that it is very likely to increase viewers' curiosity about the programme. I am also anticipating a growth in police helicopter footage being aired. I'd like to find that the attorney who sold the van to Bowdidge, Craig Williams, given a lot more screen time. Hopefully we will also see far more stars involved in Crimewatch, as some are said to be lining up to look on the next show!
