Some of the major companies are now considering SBC as complementary to their existing product lines. They are also focusing largely on the PSTN-VoIP network connectivity. That is why one can see large numbers of VoIP islands on both operator as well as the enterprise sides.

However the connectivity is not one of the simplest of the tasks to accomplish. There is necessity of something that would guarantee traversal of the signals through networks and also the firewalls. Up to the 7th layer the networks may not use the same protocol for signaling.
