How To Perform CPR: Hands-Only and Mouth-To-Mouth

Posted by Osama Mehmood on June 17th, 2021

It is a lifesaving technique. The aim is to make sure that the blood keeps flowing even when the person has stopped breathing. The security guards provided by the eagle security can perform the CPR. It involves chest compressions and rescue breathing. CPR has to be performed within the first 6 minutes of heart-stopping to keep the person alive.

The CPR technique was being used in the 18th century for drowning victims. It was in the 1960s that it was proven as an efficient revival technique. There is no substitute for professional CPR training. However, hands-only CPR can be taught to anyone. The professional security system can train their employees in this regard. It is easy to perform and will keep the person alive till help arrives.

Performing hands-only CPR

People who don’t know CPR can perform it in the following way.

Survey the scene

Make sure that it is safe to reach the person in need of CPR.

Check the person for responsiveness

Shake the person and ask them if they need help. In the case of an infant, tap the bottom of the feet to look for a response.

If the person isn’t responsive, seek immediate help

If the person is unresponsive then call emergency services or 911, or ask someone else to do so. If the person is a victim of drowning or is from age 1 to 8, then do CPR for 1 to 2 minutes first. In case you were alone at the scene.

Check the heart with an automated external defibrillator (AED)

If an AED is available then use it to monitor the heart of the person. It may also suggest you give an electric shock to the person. If the person is from age 1 to 8 then perform CPR first and then use AED. Don’t use the machine for infants. In case the machine is not available go straight to chest compressions and don’t waste time waiting for it.

Locate hand position

In the case of an adult bring both of your hands together and clasp one with the other. Then press the area in between the nipples using the heel of the hand. In the case of children aged 1 to 8 use one hand only. In the case of infants, only two fingers are sufficient.

Begin compressions

Push straight down on the chest of the person using your upper body. Make sure that the compressions are at least 2 inches deep, 1.5 inches in case of infants. The professional security system guards are trained to perform the compressions at the rate of 100 to 120 minutes. Let the chest rise between the compressions.

Continue compressions

Repeat this until the healthcare professional arrives there. If the person starts breathing then stop CPR.

Performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation

The eagle security guards have been given the guideline to perform compressions before opening the airway. When a person has a cardiac arrest, then at that time there is still blood in the heart. Performing the compressions ensure that it reaches the brain. The following steps can be performed to give and-only CPR compressions to someone unresponsive.

Open the airway

Place one hand on the forehead of the person and tilt their head back. Lift the chin with the other hand to open the airway. In the case of children and infants, head tilt can open the airway.

Give rescue breaths

These are appropriate for people of all ages. Close the nose of the person by pinching them. Then cover their mouth with a CPR face mask or your mouth. Then give two rescue breaths, each lasting 1 second. See if the chest rises or not. If the chest doesn’t rise, then re-adjust the facemask and give rescue breaths again.

Alternate rescue breathing with chest compressions

Keep repeating chest compressions and rescue breaths alternatively. Do it till they start breathing or the medical team arrives.
