If you are a new parent and at the stage where your child is to be weaned than your major concern may be how and what you should be feeding to them in this stage. It is actually pretty simple. Fresh foods are best and you can make your own bay food right in your own home. All you need to do is go and get the ingredients. Doing this yourself prevents the child from ingesting any excess salt sugars or other fillers that are used in the jarred foods.

There are actually have baby food makers on the market that you can use to steam, blend, puree, warm and even defrost food for the baby. This device will allow you to make food on the spot or you can prepare a lot and store some for the week. It may work out easier that way for you especially if you do not have much help. Failing that you can always prepare it the old fashioned way. Cook the food then use a blender to make the puree. The excess food that you make can be stored plastic covered ice cube trays to harden and then transferred to Ziploc bags until they are needed.

The great thing is that it will cost you less in the long run. At least when you make the baby food yourself you will know exactly what is being put into your baby's body. You eliminate the need to buy all those bottles of jarred foods and help to cut down on the number of jars that you will have to recycle.

Another tip to bear in mind is that you will not be giving baby any fried foods at all. Anything that you prepare must be steamed, cooked or baked. A baby food maker makes the job so easy as all you have to do when the food is soft is to add water and blend until you have the puree at the desired consistency. Making food at home for baby is not as hard as you think.

Having a baby is one of the best experiences that many will ever have. There is nothing like holding your newborn baby and everything seeming right in the world. Having a baby is also one of the biggest expenses to happen to a family. One expense that does not have to cost so much is baby food.

When babies are just starting solids, many parents run out to the nearest grocery store or Walmart stock up on those little jars of Babynahrungszubereiter baby food. While convenient, the little jars on average run about a dollar per jar. With a baby eating three jars a day, a parent is looking at spending upwards of 0 a month!

A much cheaper and tastier alternative is to make your own baby food. For just a week and an hour of your time, you can make baby food for the week with extras to freeze. At a week or a month you are cutting your food costs in half! You do not need any fancy equipment or baby food makers, all you need is a blender or food processor, containers for the food, and a couple of pots and pans. You could even get by without the pots and pans and just use the microwave if need be.

A simple starter recipe that has been tasted and baby approved are sweet potatoes with apples and cinnamon. To make this recipe you will need:

2 Large Sweet Potatoes (peeled)

2 Medium Apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)

Cinnamon to taste

Poke sweet potato with fork all over. Place sweet potatoes on plate covered with a paper towel and microwave for 5-6 minutes. Check periodically for softness. If after 6 minutes the sweet potato does not give when pressed with fork place back in microwave at 1 minute intervals. You should be able to mash the sweet potatoes with fork.

While sweet potatoes are in the microwave, fill a pot of water and bring to boil. Once water is boiling reduce heat to simmer and put the apple in. The apple should take about 15 minutes to soften. You can also use the microwave here just place apples in bowl with about an inch of water and microwave for 1-3 minutes depending on how many apples you are using.

Once apples and sweet potatoes are softened. Place both in a blender/food processor with cinnamon to taste and blend until pureed.

It is as simple as that. Once pureed you may put them in individual containers for the week or just leave it in one container and use as needed. If you have excess to freeze ice cube tray works really well as portion sizes. Once the food is frozen place food cubes in freezer safe bag and store in freezer. I like to take the food out the day before I will be using them and defrost in the refrigerator.

Making baby food is not only simple and inexpensive, but it is also a nutritious choice since you know exactly what is going into your baby's food. Hopefully by seeing how simple making baby food really is, some of you will give it a try. It can become fun trying out new combinations and seeing the reaction on your baby's face when they love the food you have made for them.
