Madden could be on track to record numbers. When a player makes a huge play, it triggers an M-Factor, which builds the momentum of the home team toward shifting the playing field towards its side (i.e. kickers are going to be unable to make their shots due to being in a constant state of ice). The in-game meter will let players know whether momentum is working in their favor and against them. If they don't glance at the indicator, it will become obvious to them based on the feedback from their virtual fans.
EA accomplished this by remastering actual crowd recordings from every NFL stadium, and added features that are unique to these venues.
