Both kinds of Passenger Elevator

Both kinds of Passenger Elevator(they are virtually identical) work on the idea that you can use electricity to make magnetism or magnetism to make electricity. To make electricity, all you have to do is move an electrical conductor (like a copper wire) through a magnetic field. That's it!

It's called Faraday's law of induction after English scientist Michael Faraday, who discovered the effect in the early 19th century. If you connect the wire up to a meter, you'll see the needle flick every time you move the wire (but only when you move it). If you were clever, you could figure out some way of removing the electricity and storing it: you'd have made yourself a miniature electric power plant.

The annoying thing about elevators (if you're trying to understand them) is that their working parts are usually covered up! From the viewpoint of someone traveling from the lobby to the 18th floor, an elevator is simply a metal box with doors that close on one floor and then open again on another. For those of us who are more curious, the key parts of an elevator are:

One or more Elevator Company(metal boxes) that rise up and down.Counterweights that balance the cars.An electric motor that hoists the cars up and down, including a braking system.A system of strong metal cables and pulleys running between the cars and the motors.
