How to Replace Motor & Pump Kit of Dishwasher?

Posted by John Miller on July 15th, 2021

We are going to tell you how to change the motor and pump kit on your dishwasher and it is a really easy job, all you are going to need is a Philips screwdriver, a ¼ inch nut driver, and a 5/16ths nut driver. Let me show you how we do it, now to do this repair on a portable dishwasher, we will need to pull it out into the center of the floor and then lay something on the floor to protect the cabinet, and we’ll lay the dishwasher on its side so that we can access the bottom and then we can do the repair.

On a built-in dishwasher, we will need to disconnect the inlet water supply, we will need to disconnect the power, and also disconnect the mounting brackets from the cabinet tree so that we can pull the dishwasher out onto the floor where we can lay it on its back to access the pump.

The instructions that are provided with the pump and motor kit will detail how to do the repairs on all of the different varieties of pumps and motors on these models.

This particular one uses the exact same motor, so it will be very easy to change, we’ll start by removing the wire harnesses from the motor and the drain solenoid and set those aside, we’ll next remove the screw that secures the ground wire to the motor, you can use either the Philips screwdriver or the 5/16ths nut driver.

We will next remove the two large clamps one that attaches to the holes coming down from the bottom of the tub, and then one at the backside of the pump, now there will probably be some water in that old pump so have a towel that will absorb that, so loosen that clamp and the one on the bottom of the tub, and then remove any further hoses that are attached to your particular style pump.

Now we can remove the screw that holds the clamp and there's a water clamp that secures the motor to the base of the dishwasher frame, remove that screw as well and you can rotate that support clamp and remove it, set it aside, and then just gently maneuver the pump from the two fixed hoses and discard the whole pump assembly.

Now before we install a new pump we will make sure that the openings to the two hoses are clean and clear, we will make a nice contact, and then we will set the new pump into position, next we will put the support rod into position and secure it with the screw, next we will make sure that that pump is sitting square.

Then we will tighten those clamps, and as well we will replace any of the additional hoses that we removed from the original pump, and we can reconnect the wire harness to the drain solenoid to the motor assembly and then the ground wire and make sure that the screw for that ground wire is tight, re-check the clamp, and now we are ready to stand the dishwasher up and put the door panel and kept right back in position.

Now that you have the pump installed in your dishwasher you can push the dishwasher back in your cabinets and re-attach the mounting brackets, the inlet water supply, and the power and your dishwasher repair is complete. I told you it was an easy job.

Thanks for reading the post and good luck with your repair.
