Ensuring that your furnace is maintained is essential to keep it running for as long as possible. With several regular maintenance, you can be sure that your furnace will be in good working condition.

But what is the checklist for furnace maintenance? Mentioned below is the checklist for furnace maintenance in Ottawa.

1- Replacing the air filters

The air filters accumulate dust, dirt, pollutant and pollen over time. Therefore, you must replace them after every three months. Replacing them will improve the air quality.

2- Cleaning the flame sensors and the burners

The burners and the flame sensors are regions that sometimes people forget to clean. They should be regularly cleaned for good results.

3- Check for any leaks

When you use the furnace for longer periods, there are chances that your heat exchanger will develop some cracks or leaks. To prevent this mishap, you must frequently inspect the heat exchanger for any leaks.

4- Check the carbon monoxide detector

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a flammable gas, and an increase in the levels of CO could put the homeowners in harm's way. Therefore, you should regularly monitor the CO detector and put in fresh batteries.

5- The blowers need to be lubricated

The fans in the furnace need to rotate freely to supply good quality air properly. Therefore, the blowers need to be properly lubricated from time to time. Oil is an excellent lubricant.

6- The humidifier should be clean

If you have been using a humidifier, you must regularly clean it.

7- Check the wirings properly

Any loose electrical wiring can lead to equipment failure or a short circuit. A small tear in the wiring should be immediately resolved.

8- The thermostat should function properly

The thermostat is the device that connects and regulates the furnace properties. Hence the thermostat should be working properly. Check if they need a change of fresh batteries.

9- The air registers should be clean

The air registers are also responsible for proper airflow. If the air registers are dusty, the airflow will be reduced, which would affect the temperature of the room. Therefore, the air registers should be kept clean and dust-free.

10- Air opening should be inspected

If any restrictions or items block the combustion air opening, they should be immediately cleaned and taken care of. Otherwise, the result will be very dangerous.

11- Inspect the flue pipe

Any corrosion, cracks or leaks in the flue pipe could prove dangerous or, in some cases, even fatal. Therefore, the flue pipes should be inspected every couple of months.

12- The panel should be secured

Any loose panels will compromise the functioning of the furnace and cause an immediate shutdown. Hence the panel should always be secure.
