Vulcanizing Agent In Rubber And What It Is Used For

Vulcanization is a pretty common process in the rubber industry. It is used to improve the properties of rubber by compounding it with other chemicals like sulphur, hydrogen sulphide, etc.

One can say Vulcanization is a chemical process which is used to convert the natural rubber or related polymers into materials with better physical and mechanical properties.  Sulphur or other equivalent curatives or accelerators are the most common vulcanizing agent in rubber used for the process. By adding these additives, polymers will be modified forming cross-links (bridges) between each polymer chain. It is the process of curing elastomers to form better chains to offer excellent rigidity and durability to the rubber material.

The rubber and plastic materials that we use in our daily life are only possible to manufacture because of the vulcanization and vulcanizing agents in rubber.

Tyre manufacturers are the best-known and most prevalent example of industry using vulcanized rubber. Tyre industry is the one with the most demand for vulcanized rubber. Apart from the tyres here are some of the other materials that are built using vulcanized rubber.
