As the shag rugs have made a comeback appearance, they are the hottest trend in town. They not only give your home a luxurious feel but also make your feet. Where extra long pile provides a retro vibe, the cushy surface will give your heels and toes a welcome after you step out of bed.  If your kids prefer to sprawl in front of TV or to lie down on the floor then you can put a lush piece of carpet on a cold tile to give them an exciting time.

These rugs look good but the coolness factor will fade away when it comes to get them professionally cleaned. If you have a “noodle” carpet thrown in the busy hallway, kitchen or entryways, they are bound to attract dirt and dust more than any other area.  Just like the wall carpeting, these carpets absorb allergies, dust mites, bugs, soil, stains, odors, pet hair if you have any.

Dust will fall onto rug and will make it appear dirty even if you do not eat and drink in that room where you have put it. Your windows, ventilation system and doors allow the allergens and other bacteria to float around on the floor which makes there fibers infected and dirty. If your carpets are not often used then also they need to be properly cleaned from time to time as the dirt particles present in the air.

Avoid walking on a dirt-filled rug as it weakens the fiber by actually cutting through it. So how do you clean your favorite rug without harming its original smooth and soft structure?

The best way to achieve a dirt free appearance, go the old school way. Take your rug out in your balcony or outside wherever it is convenient for you and shake it. From the railing, hang it and beat it just hard enough to loosen the trapped debris, dirt and dust. You can also use a broom or handle of a mop. Leave your rug for a long duration outside to absorb the sun rays. The hot sun rays help to kill dust mites and bacteria that often accumulate in soft items.

If you have a vacuum cleaner you can remove the dirt from you shaggy carpet. Adjust the cleaning head as that will help control the suction and will make the head move more easily. Clean the fibers thoroughly and avoid using the whirling action as it can pull or tear out strands.

For accidental spills and stains simply soak up immediately, using a paper towel or a light-color absorbent piece of cloth.  Simply rinse the rag and squeeze out the excessive water. Dry the rug by putting under a fan to blow air across it for some time. If you shrug is used daily then it requires to be cleaned every day, monthly if it`s not walked or used often and weekly on an average.
