Why Planning Matters With Self Care Too

Posted by Jennifer L Kropf on November 5th, 2021

As Benjamin Franklin has said, \" If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.\"

His words ring true when it comes to self-care as well. So many of us feel burned out and overwhelmed. And a large part of that is not taking the time to nourish ourselves. It\'s time to take a different approach!

Let\'s look at self-care the way we look at our work and family priorities. Here are three simple steps to finally have the time and space to take better care of yourself!

1. Plan Your Week

Every week, you check the calendar for appointments, kids activities, and work obligations. Now, while doing this, write in your workouts, fitness goals, and nature walks too. Pencil in the things that bring you joy and you\'ll be much more likely to do them!

(After you\'ve written them on your weekly planner, be sure to transfer them to the daily one too!)

2. Add Accountability

Next, part of excellent planning is adding in accountability to follow through on your goals. Positive peer pressure is what makes things happen even when you don\'t feel like doing something. So, set a goal where you check-in with a friend, find a social group that does what you want to do, and make a bet with your partner to help you follow through.

These things are small planning measures that you take beforehand, but they add up to BIG results in the end!

3. Make the Time

Finally, here\'s the thing, even if you plan for something it can be hard to stop what you are doing and switch gears. So, set an alarm on your phone that tells you to get up and take a break or pre-plan outings with friends.

Plan ahead, and realize that you might need an extra push when it comes times to do your habit or activity.

In Conclusion

There you have it! These tips are all easy, but they yield amazing results when you pursue them with consistency. I hope they help you bring your self-care and wellness to the next level. Take care of yourself friends!
