Jawline Contouring Options

Having a sharp, defined jawline at any age is not only a sign of youth but also of fitness and health.

However, not many people are born with the jawline of their dream, and some struggle to attain it. Exercise and diet can be futile in efforts to achieve your desired jawline. Despite being in great overall health and fitness you may notice jowls and loose skin obscuring your jawline. However, thanks to modern Plastic Surgery you can achieve a contoured jawline.

There are both nonsurgical and surgical options available to help you attain the jawline of your dreams.

Nonsurgical Options

Nonsurgical jawline contouring options are for individuals with mild to moderate fat obscuring their jawline, minimal to moderate loose skin around the jawline, and a fairly well-defined chin area. The options include:

  • Botox in the masseter muscle. This involves placing Botulinum toxin -Botox, directly in the masseter muscle of the face. This slims the overall facial shape into a slightly more V-like shape. The results last about 3-4 months.
  • Dermal Fillers to the Jawline. Directly injecting dermal fillers to the jawline enhances the mandible and the edge of the mandible. This jawline contouring technique is best for individuals who already have a nice face structure but lack that definition of the jaw. The results are immediate and depending on the type of dermal filler used they should last about 6-18 months.

Surgical Options

Surgical techniques for jawline contouring are for individuals with moderate to a larger amount of loose skin and fat around the jawline and neck areas. The options include:

  • Neck lift. This involves making incisions near the ear and behind the ear, as well as underneath the chin. The Plastic Surgeon then lifts the neck skin up to access the neck muscles, fat, and supporting structures of the neck. Since a neck lift allows the most access to the jawline and neck structures, it offers the best long-term results which can last for years.
  • Neck liposuction. Liposuction is performed on individuals who have fat just under the skin but not underneath the neck muscles. Liposuction of the jawline and neck area results in a nicely defined jawline. You might also achieve mild to moderate skin tightening depending on the liposuction technique used and the results are long-lasting since the fat is physically removed.
  • Radiofrequency energy. Radiofrequency is used to tighten loose skin usually after another procedure such as liposuction. RF can be used alongside other procedures to tighten the neck skin resulting in a smoother and tighter jawline.

If you are thinking of how to achieve your dream jawline, it is best to consult with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon who is an expert in facial contouring.
