Chiropractic First Visit—What to Expect

Posted by Jason Norman on July 22nd, 2022

When you are visiting a chiropractor Brick NJ for the first time, make sure that you have a list of any prescription medications you are taking, your and any pertinent family medical history, and health issues and medical conditions plus why you need to see a chiropractor.  When you walk in, you will have paperwork to fill out using the information you brought with you.  Make sure if you have any allergies they are listed.

All of this will help the chiropractor in Brick to know everything important to know about you.  They may also ask about your job and any physical activities you participate in that may contribute to what you are seeing the chiropractor for.  The more they know about you the better it will be to help them figure out the cause of your pain and what treatment would be best to use.

Once your chiropractor has all the information it will be time for them to do a physical examination.  During the examination, the chiropractor will check your joints, spine, reflexes, posture, neck, and hip flexors.  Any tests will be tailored to address your main complaint no matter if it is back pain, neck pain, or something else.  After the tests, they will focus on your spine.

The chiropractor Brick NJ will do an exam on your entire spine.  They will pay particular attention to any specific areas that are relevant to where your pain is.  If it is necessary, they may also do x-rays to show the chiropractor the extent of any issues with your spine.

Once the chiropractor knows where the problem lies, it is time to formulate a treatment plan, which will be tailored to your specific needs.  The treatment plan will state that you will need to follow up visits but not how many because each person is different.  Some may only require three visits while others may require ten or more.  It all depends on what the issue is, how bad it is, and how well you respond to treatment.

Once all this is done, it is time for your first adjustment.  The chiropractor in Brick will most likely want to do this at the first visit.  During the treatment, depending on what they are going to adjust, you may sit upright, lay on your side or back, or face down on a padded chiropractor table.  After the adjustment, you may be asked to walk around the office a little to see how you feel and also if you have any questions.

Before you leave you will be given an appointment for your next treatment.  You mustn't miss any of your appointments because if you do, it could affect how the treatment will affect your problem.  It can make recovery harder.

Conclusion

Most visits will take thirty minutes or less but your first visit could take an hour since there is so much to be done.  Come prepared with all your information.  Following their treatment plan is important to your recovery and being free of pain.
