Not since E3 took invest June of 2010 had we heard anything concerning the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda title, Skyward Sword. Therefore, with the Game Developer's Conference, or the GDC for short, coming around in March many fans of the series got excited at what they might see. Nintendo has been utilizing the Game Developer's Conference to reveal new Zelda information for years. The past Zelda title, Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo Dual Screen was shown at the GDC and expectations were high in relation to what Nintendo might reveal for Skyward Sword. As Nintendo's keynote speech began there is no reference to the Zelda series whatsoever. An hour or so into the presentation and nothing was even hinted at for the series. However Nintendo knew we were all getting antsy so they faded the lights and put on a truck highlighting the game's new motion controls. For those of you who're not aware, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword will soon be using full 1:1 motion controls to take advantage of the Nintendo Wii's controller capabilities. The trailer focused primarily on what the controls will soon be different but it additionally Skyward FBISD showed some new features which will be within the game. First of all, Nintendo really highlighted how Link (the hero of the Zelda games) will have to find creative new techniques to dispatch the enemies of the game. Before, most enemies were removed by simply slashing at them with the sword until they died. In Skyward Sword each enemy has their particular respective weaknesses and players must find a way to use the motion controls and 1:1 set-up to vanquish that foe. For example, there is a scene in the trailer where Link had to aim his slashes to tear apart a barrier that the enemy was using. There is also an instance where Link had to help keep his balance being an enemy approached him on a narrow passage. Finally, Nintendo teased us with the introduction of a brand new character in the trailer. This mysterious guy looks sort of like Vaati from past Zelda games but at the same time frame he might be literally anybody. Friend or foe. In any event, when Skyward Sword is released down the road in 2010, it will most surely be one of many year's best sellers. With this year's E3 just around the corner we must expect more information soon.
