What to Expect Before and After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Posted by Mr. Sultan Hassan on June 15th, 2016

Breast augmentation surgery is commonly known as a 'boob job' or breast enlargement, and it is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for women in the UK. Certified and skilled surgeons can safely and effectively conduct this surgery, which might consider if you want to improve the look of your breasts and gain more self-confidence in your appearance. Breast augmentation can restore the shape and firmness of post-pregnancy breasts or enhance the proportion, shape, or size of breasts, which may have become deformed due to age, weight loss, or injury. Here are some of the things you can expect before and after breast augmentation surgery:

Before Surgery

Before any breast augmentation procedure, you need to arrange a consultation with your preferred cosmetic surgeon to learn about the different implants. That way, you can understand the differences between each implant and why one may be the best choice for your procedure. Once you agree with the surgeon, he will discuss the pros and cons of the procedure. This is an important aspect of the consultation to make sure that you can explain why you want the surgery. When you work with the right surgeon, you can receive ongoing support, especially if you feel that you need psychological counselling.

Breast augmentation is an invasive surgical procedure, so your overall medical condition and physical health must be evaluated first before you can be scheduled for surgery. That way, your surgeon can be aware of any possible health conditions, which could increase your risks and complications during or after surgery. Be sure to be completely honest with your medical history and if you are taking any medications or have some habits (i.e. smoking, drinking, drugs) that the surgeon must be aware of. Before surgery, you will have to stop drinking, smoking, or taking drugs.

After Surgery

Bruising and swelling is expected after surgery, and you can expect some discomfort and pain from three to seven days. The surgeon may prescribe pain relievers to make the pain and discomfort more bearable. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection, too. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled after seven days, two weeks, and three months, but you should be able to meet with the surgeon as many times as you need if should you have any concerns.

During recovery, you need to take one to two weeks off from work and avoid running for about four weeks. Your surgeon should be able to give you more tips on what you can and cannot do after surgery.
