Attilio Mazzilli is a lawyer specialized in private equity and venture capital, with specific skills in domestic and cross-border M&A transactions. The path that led Attilio Mazzilli to Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP

Attilio Mazzilli graduated in Law from the University of Milan with a dissertation on “The insurance contracts in private international law”. He was admitted to the Italian Bar Association in 2003 and in that same period he started working as Associate for “Pavia e Ansaldo”, a Milan-based law firm. In 2006 he moved to Los Angeles, California, in order to attend the University of California and obtain a Master of Laws in Business&Corporate Law. A year later, he went back to Milan and joined “Chiomenti” law firm as Senior Associate. After a while, he changed again working environment and he moved to “Carnelutti” law firm to serve as Partner and Head of International Development (2011-2015). It was in 2015, after the experience in “Carnelutti”, that Attilio Mazzilli joined Orrick, Herrington & Sutclliffe LLP, the global law firm where he is still serving now. Here he works as Corporate Partner and Head of the Italian Tech Group, and he is also a Member of the International Technology Companies Group. His activity is mainly focused on M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions, as well as on advising startups and venture capital firms in the areas of financing, corporate law, M&A and listings. In addition to this, he operates as consultant for leading tech companies, supporting their founders at all stages of their life-cycle.

Attilio Mazzilli’s latest achievements

In 2020 Attilio Mazzilli was awarded “Lawyer of the Year for Venture Capital” at the Legalcommunity Awards. His commitment also contributed to the achievement of important awards for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. “Law firm of the Year 2021 for Venture Capital”, “Law Firm of the Year 2020 for M&A Small Cup” (BeBeez and PBV) and “Law Firm of the Year 2020 for Fintech” (TopLegal Industry Awards” are some examples. He was also the person that collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Innovation, the Finance Commission and VC Hub during the first outbreak of COVID-19 in Italy, for drafting urgent measures aimed at providing financial support to tech and innovative Italian companies. During the same period, the Italian Ministry of Health selected Immuni, the app developed by one of his clients (Bending Spoons), to track the spread of COVID-19 in Italy. In more than 22 years of professional career, Attilio Mazzilli has taken part in a significant number of important transactions, assisting companies like Intesa San Paolo, Cattolica Assicurazioni, Teko Telecom, Octo Telematics and Prima Assicurazioni. He assisted Banca Sella >Holding and Fabrick in the joint venture agreement with Illimity Bank concerning Hype, Cerba Healthcare in the acquisition of Lifebrain from Investindustrial and Scalapay in the Series B funding round led by Tencent and in the Series A funding round led by Tiger Global.
