Tips to Boost your Express Entry CRS Score

Posted by Nationwide Immigration Services on April 12th, 2024

A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is crucial in obtaining an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through Express Entry. Millions of individuals from India and around the world apply for Canada PR from India but not all get an ITA and a chance to immigrate to Canada. Why? Their CRS is low.

Only those candidates with the highest CRS scores are more likely to get an ITA. If you are in the Express Entry pool and your CRS does not correspond with the minimum CRS score required in the latest Express Entry draws, this article will help you with proven methods you can use to boost your score by 50 to 600 points.

Components of CRS Score

The maximum CRS score available is 1,200.

600 points: Core, spousal/common-law partner, and skill transferability components

600 points: Additional points components

Irrespective of your relationship status, you can get 600 points in the CRS score calculator for the first four components. The only difference is that these points are broken down and are distributed very differently. So, to make things simple, this article will continue assuming you do not have an accompanying spouse.

When it comes to the additional factors, you can get points for having:

  • A provincial nomination: 600 points

  • An arranged employment: 50 or 200 points

  • Canadian post-secondary education credentials: 15 or 30 points

  • French language skills: 25 or 50 points

  • A sibling living in Canada: 15 points

If any changes in your personal affairs could affect your CRS score, inform IRCC & update them. At the same time, some updates are automatically updated such as the expiry of your language test results – which are usually valid for 2 years or birthday. Your score may increase if you get a job offer, your language test score increases, or you provide an additional educational credential assessment for foreign education.

Tips for Boost Your CRS Score

There’s a lot of competition when it comes to receiving ITAs for Canada PR in the Express Entry draws. Therefore, once you submit your profile and see your CRS score is lower than the average cut-off score, work towards improving it. This will make sure that your chances of getting an ITA are increased.

We have outlined 5 tips through which you can boost your CRS score.

1. Apply early

Age is a crucial factor when it comes to applying for a Canada PR visa from India. The earlier you apply, the better your chances of getting maximum points for the age factor. If you apply between 20 and 29 years of age, you get 110 CRS points. As you age, your points gradually decrease and at 45, you don’t get a single point. When you cross 30, the system automatically starts deducting points, so it’s to apply early.

2. Improve your language score

Your language skills also play a huge role in gaining points in the CRS score calculator 2024. Language test evaluates your skills in four sections: Reading, Speaking, Listening, and Writing. Each one of these awards a unique Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) and you need CLB 4 to start receiving points.

For instance, if you get CLB 7, you get 8 more points added to your score per ability. If you have applied through FSWP, you need at least CLB 7 in all four sections to qualify for Express Entry.

For those who know French, an extra 6 points are given for each section in a second language.

3. Include your foreign work experience

Just having foreign work experience does not do anything. The more skilled work experience you have, in addition to a high CLB, the better are your chances. If you have applied under FSWP, you will already have a minimum work experience of one year and a CLB 7. If you don’t have at least 3 years of work experience, add a few additional years of work experience.

This is an application even if you are already working in Canada as a temporary foreign worker on a work permit. This will enhance your CRS score through the Skills Transferability factor.

4. Get a Canadian job offer

If you get a job offer from an eligible Canadian employer before you apply for a Canada PR visa from India, you can boost your prospects. But you have to remember that certain criteria have to be met to claim points for a job offer under CRS.

First of all, the job you have has to be full-time, paid, and continuous or at least 12 months. You need a written offer from the employer to get a maximum of 200 CRS points. For a valid non-seasonal or full-time offer listed under Skill Level B, A, or 0 under NOC, you get 50 points. This offer must be valid for at least 12 months.

5. Gain extra educational credentials

You can get an extra educational credential to increase your CRS score. If you already have a completed degree, diploma, or certificate in a study program which was 2-3 years long, you get 112 points.

If you complete an additional program of one year and obtain another degree, diploma, or certificate, your score can rise to 119 points.

BONUS TIP:

PNP Advantage

Many Canadian provinces have streams linked with Express Entry through which they search for eligible candidates in the pool as per their needs. If you are able to get a provincial nomination, your CRS score will be increased by 600 points. This is the biggest possible increase from any single factor and your profile becomes very likely to receive an ITA for Canada PR from India.
