With the right colors you can transform your home into a magical place, but use the wrong combination of colors and get ready to be ridiculed by your friends, neighbors and every guest who visits your house. Painting your house does sound like a tough job, but with a little bit of planning and imagination you can make your home beautiful and inviting. There are certain things which you need to keep in mind before you start painting your home.

Design of the house: The first thing that you need to consider is the kind of house you have. If you have bought one of the magnificent Tarrytown luxury homes, then your job gets a bit more challenging. These homes come with spectacular architectural designs and lovely décor, so you have to choose the color scheme wisely, the color scheme should help in elevating the elegance of the house and make sure that it does not create a jarring effect. On the other hand if you have an apartment or a house which comes with a contemporary design then you can be more experimental.

Start thinking out of the box: If you continue to try out the same old colors which others use or which are considered safe then you are going to end up with a boring house. It is your place and you should use your vivid imagination to color it. Get ready to experiment with color.

Stay away from loud colors: Just because you have decided to use different colors, that does not mean you should go overboard with your color scheme. Choose colors which are elegant and have a soothing effect instead of lurid colors which look disturbing and make your house look like a circus tent.

Mix and match: There is no need to paint all the rooms with just one color or different shades of a particular color. You can easily mix and match and choose different colors for different rooms. But try to maintain a pattern here and do not end up creating a rainbow. Choose green, blue, violet such similar shades, or stick to pink, red, orange. Try to maintain a balance between the colors you plan to use.

Choose colors according to room sizes: This is a vital rule, you should always keep the size of your rooms in mind. If you paint a small room with dark colors then it is bound to look smaller, so use bright colors instead to make it look more spacious, you can never go wrong with white or pastel shades. Likewise you can paint a big room with a dark shade of your choice to give it a compact look.

To stay on the safe side use samples and test these to find out the effect they create. There are plenty of color combinations you can try, but make sure that the colors enhance the appeal of your home and reflect the colorful side of your personality.
