Features To Consider When Buying A Digital Video Recorder For Cctv

Over the decades, the way we protect ourselves has changed. CCTV cameras are one of the most used security equipment, be it for a residence or for a business establishment. Whatever the case may be, one thing that every CCTV camera requires is a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) so that you can view the recorded material later for any purposes.

There are a few things to consider when you buy a DVR along with the CCTV cameras to get the most out of this security method. Listed here are a few of these factors that you need to consider:

DVR’s frame per second

The frames-per-second refers to the number of images the DVR will record every second. If you own a business where you need to keep a constant check on the goods, the entrance, or maybe the cash register, then a DVR which can record 30 fps i.e. record in real time is a good idea. However, one thing to be noted is that if a DVR with a capacity of recording 60 fps has four video cameras sending it input, then the per camera frames per second capture will be 15 fps. So consider your requirements before you buy a DVR.

Storage on hard drive

This refers to the amount of space the DVR will have before it starts overwriting on the already saved video. You can have as much as 6TB of storage or as little as a few hundred gigabytes. Depending on your requirements and the purpose of recording, you may choose the amount of hard drive storage that the digital video recorder needs to have. The storage capacity is contingent on many factors like field of view, compression format, resolution of the cameras connected to the DVR, etc.

Embedded DVR or Computer based

A personal computer based DVR is essentially a modified computer that serves as the DVR. On the other hand, an embedded DVR is specifically created to serve as a DVR. The advantages of an embedded DVR are that they are relatively more stable in terms of software and hardware while the advantages of a PC based DVR is that the user can interact with the functions more efficiently as they can use the on-screen menus and options rather than the buttons on an embedded DVR. Another advantage of a PC based DVR is the feature that allows the user to highlight one specific area on the image and track the changes that come to that area over the course of recording. This can help in finding out information when something has been stolen while on video.

There are quite a few reasons as to why installing a CCTV is a good idea for your security:

A CCTV DVR is easy to install and requires minimum effort.

The user can access the camera feed remotely over the internet, enabling them to keep a regular check on the scene being recorded.

Maintenance of the CCTVs and DVR is easy and convenient.

Get the best DVR for your CCTV and rest assured of your security.
