What are the benefits of injection molding?

It is a process where a mold is used in specific manner so that a replica of the original material is produced in masses.  It is a method where the product is produced by filling the mould with raw materials.  Injection molds are usually made out from a metal and it is used as a tool by the tool maker.  This particular method is known as extrusion method usually used in the production of plastic products.  It is a process used for the mass production of plastic items to get precisely similar to the original product.  The replica produced by this particular method is similar to that of the original product in all manner and dimension.

The beauty of this method is that it can be used suitably and appropriately from micro products to macro products such as car bumpers and wheel bins.  There is a freedom of designing and method of creating different types of molds within budget makes this method as a popular method of the plastic production.  Due to its flexibility and functional ease, it is widely used in the production line.  The products greatly vary in size, complexity, and application.

The process involves plastic molding machine, raw plastic material, and a mold to create replicas.  The process is roughly goes like this.  The plastic material having suitable ingredients is fed into the melting fields and then molten plastic is injected into the mold and the injected plastic mass is left to cool, and the solidified plastic material is removed from the mold.  Once it is removed, to get final product, the edges are trimmed and finished so that the product resemble original product in all aspects and dimensions.  Injection Molding Company should have large warehouse and raw material in stock to run the production line continuously and the owners should be expert businessmen, as there is a tough competition between the manufacturers. The advantages of injection molding is as follows

  • Formation of any complex shapes is possible to produce.  Complex shapes with fine details are easy to obtain from this process.
  • Excellent surface finish with finer details is produced using this method, so that shiny beautiful product is available.
  • Production rate is higher and the production can be increased or decreased as and when it is necessary.
  • The labor cost is extremely less compared with any other type of production.
  • The scrap obtained from this particular process can be recycled and wastage of the material can be controlled completely therefore yield is higher than any other production industries.

However, there are some disadvantages in using this method of molding.  This particular method can be used only to produce product having thin wall thickness.  The mold production and tools cost is high and it requires high initial investment.

Some of the products produced by the injection molding method involve housings, containers, caps and fittings.  After the molded parts are removed from the mold, they are finished as per the specifications given by the clients and they are checked on random basis to know the quality of the production.
