The Importance Of Buying Gia Certified Diamonds

Posted by Steve Roles on December 15th, 2016

The GIA certification is the most recognized grading system for diamonds in the global jewelry industry. Issued by the Gemological Institute of America, this certification is basically a genuine, unbiased opinion about the quality and consequent value of the diamonds. You can buy a GIA diamond online as well as at regular gemstone shops and jewelry stores. But before that, you should know why exactly you need to look for the GIA label.

1. You would know exactly what you are buying
The standard four Cs is a recognized way in which diamonds are graded and priced. These “Cs” are:
- Carat
- Color
- Cut
- Clarity
So, there is no way that you can judge these precious stones by yourself. In other words, a GIA mark is the most reliable way to know for sure all the attributes of your diamond. Every important factor about the diamond would be stated in the certificate. Also, the seller would know exactly what you bought so there wouldn’t be any misunderstandings in the future.

2. You have legal proof to show the authenticity of the diamonds
In case you wish to resell the diamond any time, you can back up the price that you ask by showing the proof of authenticity in the form of the GIA certificate. It would simply provide you more value for the stone.

3. GIA certified diamonds negate the risk of buying synthetic diamonds
The average jewelers are not qualified enough to spot a fractured diamond from a flawless one nor are you. But when you buy a GIA, you know what you invested in. More importantly, while paying for the diamond, you don’t have to wonder if you ended up being tricked into buying a synthetic version of it.

It is important to remember that GIA diamonds are not overtly expensive, as many jewelers may want you to believe. And instead of taking the risk of getting carried away by their claims, it is always better to choose the safer way no matter how hard they try to convince you. In some cases, you may be asked to finalize a piece which is promised to be sent for a certification. If that happens, you would have to wait at least a month and if you have that much time, you could agree to wait or else, insist on buying and even looking at only the pieces that are already certified.
