Thick bags, filled with human hair, are on the market in Taihe. Suppliers bring their goods from all over China and bargain with dozens of buyers. "We need to negotiate the hair," says buyer Liu Yanwen. The 35-year-old has been here since 5:30 am. "We have a company that processes it for export to overseas," he says, grabbing a tuft of strong black curling hair.

Gao Pu, a salesman with a shaved head, empties a backpack with dozens of hair bundles on the floor. "It comes from the heads of ordinary Chinese people," he explains. For a kilo of their hair splendor, prices of up to 5400 yuan (about 656 euros) are paid.

Taihe, located in the eastern province of Anhui, is the location for more than 400 companies in the earmark industry. From here come all sorts of products, from curly hair extensions to complete wigs. The product is intended for bright hairy heads in the USA, Europe and Africa. The peculiar hair markets Wigsen.com, the downtrodden workshops and the Taihe companies earned 88 million dollars in 2012 with their hair exports.

Fu Quangou pioneered hair trading in the 1970s. "We used to collect human hair here in the area," says the 64-year-old. "But now it comes from all countries: Myanmar, Vietnam, such countries."

Fus son Fu Qianwei has walked in the footsteps of the father. The 36-year-old runs a company named "Anna", which sells eight million dollars per year, especially in the USA. "Each country has its own requirements in terms of length, thickness and quality," says the young entrepreneur with the hedgehog, while his workers are just sewing and curling mountains on hairpieces for Africa. Several boxes filled with "Afro Curly" hair extensions are already ready.
