Take a walk through Malaysia?s nights markets: Eat and Buy

Posted by traveller malaysia on March 15th, 2017

When they say Malaysia comes alive in the night, they don’t just mean in the pubs and bars. Malaysia has, since the 1990s, upheld the tradition of shopping at a Pasar Malam or night market. Locals and tourists alike visit these bustling streets once dusk falls and this is one sight you have to see to believe.

Given how these night markets are located in major tourist destinations, all you have to do is take tickets from redbus to the location.

If you are intrigued already, jot down the names of these three night markets and make sure you visit them on your next trip there:

  • Taman Connaught Pasar Malam: With over 700 stalls dotting the two-kilometre long market, the Taman Connaught night market located just outside Kuala Lumpur is the longest pasar malam here. The speciality of this stretch is the numerous food stalls serving local, authentic cuisine.
  • Batu Ferringhi Night Market: This pasar malam has evolved in the last so many years to stand out as a major tourist attraction in Penang. Buying unique, prized souvenirs is easily done here and the weekends is the best time to visit this place.
  • SS2 Pasar Malam: Petaling Jaya’s SS2 night market is one of the most noted in the area, Monday being the day this market pulls out all stops to lure locals and tourists. A must-do activity here is to gorge on the local Malaysian dessert fare lined up that include cakes, bread, and even sweet dim sums!

Chow Kit Market, Kuala Lumpur: Hailed as Kuala Lumpur’s biggest wet market, proud to display a lively and culturally-enriching scene with rows upon rows of seafood, meat, fresh vegetables, local fruits, and spices. Its dry section is clean and appropriate for tourists looking for plenty of stalls offering clothes, shoes, CDs, DVDs, and textiles at affordable costs.
