One of the foremost reasons for losing weight has always been synonymous with looking good. Vanity plays an important role when it comes to losing weight. We all know that being overweight makes one look bad, not to be rude, but this is not the only problem over here!

Being overweight comes with its own set of issues from developing diabetes to cardiovascular diseases and even cancer. So being overweight does not only affect your looks, it also adversely affects your health, too. Losing weight can be a long and tough journey, but for the sake of your health, you will need to embark on this journey. Keep yourself motivated and you will get there! Here are the 5 key reasons you need to shed weight!

Being Overweight Shortens Your Lifespan!

Not to be too blunt, but simply put, being overweight actually shortens your lifespan. We all look forward to a healthy and long life, but if you are overweight, chances are that your lifespan will be shortened. Obesity is known to cut your lifespan short by at least 20 years!

A recent survey has also confirmed these findings that being overweight or obese actually shortens your lifespan. The reason is simple. Obesity has been associated with a number of life-threatening diseases including cancer, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. So if you want to live long enough to see your grandkids grow up, it is time to lose some hardcore fat!

Obesity is More Harmful for Women

Not to be a sexist here, but it is true that women are more prone to develop obesity and suffer the consequences. Obesity messes up the hormonal balance and disrupts the reproductive functions. It affects the ability of women to conceive.

Furthermore, excess fat in the body is converted to female hormones which in turn may lead to development of certain hormone-sensitive cancers such as breast cancer and uterine cancer. So women need to be more careful when it comes to maintaining their weight. This does not mean that they should starve themselves, rather staying within the normal height-to-weight range is recommended!

Psychological Disorders and Obesity

Needless to say, being overweight comes with its own set of psychological issues. Besides the fact an overweight person suffers from low self-esteem, obese people are more prone to become introverts. Obesity has also been associated with dementia, amnesia, cognitive disabilities and even retardation of motor skills. A lot of it has to do with how they look and how obesity affects their normal physiological processes.

Obesity and Cancer

Cancer is one of the most dreaded illness and just the word itself can scare a person. Obese individuals are more prone to develop cancer, as they have weakened immune system that allows the cancer cells to propagate uncontrolled. It is not just uncontrolled propagation, but cancer is difficult to treat in obese individuals as well.

Obesity also leads to unwanted complications, as well. As mentioned earlier, breast cancer and uterine cancer are hormone sensitive and in obese women, excess fat is converted in to hormones that leads to development of cancer. So it is imperative that you lose weight, especially if you have a positive family history!

Obesity and Your Heart

Your heart is blood pumping organ of your body. If it stops pumping, then you are gone literally! Besides brain, this is one of the most important organs of the body and unfortunately, obesity affects the heart in the most adverse way! Being overweight leads to development of clogs within your blood vessels, which in turn puts a huge strain on your heart.

To some extent, your heart can cope with this strain but in long-term, your heart will not be able to sustain it! So instead of pushing your heart to the limit, do it a favor and lose weight! Obesity has long been associated with high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, cardiac arrests and even aortic rupture! So stay on the safer side and look after your cardiac health!

Losing Weight is Not Just About Looking Good or Fitting in your Favorite Outfit, It Is About Your Health and How You Want to Spend the Rest of Your Life! So Stay Healthy and Enjoy Life!
