Tips to Find the Frames That Work Best for Your Style

Eyewear is not merely about protecting your eyes or helping you see clearly. It is all about style, too. Hence, it is important that you find the best frames that truly fit and flatter your face when shopping for eyewear. You also want to find frames that suit your personal style and allow you to express your personality. The best way to choose frames is to try them on yourself. But if you are buying frames online, and this is not possible, don’t worry. You can still find frames that will suit you by considering the following tips:

  • Determine your face shape and your features – Make sure the frames will suit your face shape, whether you are choosing frames for eyeglasses or sunglasses. Keep in mind that the eyewear must emphasize you best personal feature, such as green frames to suit your blue eyes, and that the frame shape must contrast with the shape of your face, while remaining in scale with the size of your face.

Most faces are combinations of different angles and shapes, but the most basic ones are round, oblong, oval, base-up triangle, base-down triangle, square, and diamond. Oval faces have the most balanced proportions, so wide frames or frames that are wider than the face’s broadest part should suit them. Walnut-shaped frames that are neither too narrow nor too deep should be fine, too. Oblong faces can achieve balance and make certain features look smaller or shorter with frames that have more depth, and with contrasting or decorative temples.

Frames with a wider bottom in a light color and rimless frames are ideal for base-up triangle faces, and narrow frames or narrow ovals are perfect for square faces. Diamond-shaped faces can be flattered by cat-eye, oval, and rimless shapes, and round can look longer and thinner with angular narrow frames with a clear bridge. Cat-eye and heavy accents or detailing on the top half of the frame suit base-down triangle faces.
  • Picking the color – Everyone either has warm (yellow-based) or cool (blue-based) tones and look best in their own color base. Hence, frame color must complement your personal coloring, but should complement your skin tone and the color of your eyes and hair. Gold, khaki, copper, orange, fire-engine red, blond tortoise, warm blue, off-white and coral are great for warm colors, while magenta, blue-gray, black, plum, silver, pink, blue, and darker tortoise go well with cool colors.
