How to Measure, Monitor and Optimize Electrical Parameters?

Posted by Mike Collan on June 11th, 2017

An industrial facility requires a number of electrical components, systems, equipment and tools to constantly measure the performance of the system and optimize it further. Electrical control panels, control stations, soft starters, and power panels are some of the most commonly found components for the purpose mentioned above. This post will talk about the importance of these components.

Modern industrial facilities are very different from what the facilities used to be a couple of decades ago. There are now innovative systems, equipment, and tools which do an excellent job of allowing the operators to monitor the performance of the system and enhance it further. While there are several products that are now available, some of them are more common than others.

Let us have a look at some of these common components which should surely be a part of a modern industrial facility.

  1. Electrical control panels

One of the best ways to monitor an electrical system is with the help of an electrical control panel. Apart from monitoring, they also make it easier for the operators to adjust the variables as required while operating. While the traditional panels usually featured push buttons, many of the modern ones have touch screens. Moreover, renowned control panel manufacturer like Solution Control Systems also offer custom solutions.

  1. Soft Starters

These are used with electrical motors for temporarily reducing the torque and load in the electrical surge and power train of the motor in the start-up phase. This helps in reducing the mechanical and electrical stress on the electrical motor to reduce maintenance and enhance the lifespan of the system. There are standard panels, purged panels, starters for AC induction motors and even custom starters available.

  1. VFD (Variable Frequency Drive)

A VFD can be defined as a motor controller which drives the electrical motor by allowing operators to adjust the voltage and frequency supplied to the motor. These drives are known by many other names like adjustable frequency drive, variable speed drive, adjustable speed drive, etc. There are also VFD panels which can be found in different voltages and they can also be designed as per the custom requirements.

  1. Power Panels

Power panels are used for switching and distributing power. These panels play an integral role in the power network of a facility, building, or equipment. There are many different types of power panels, like transfer switches, service entrance equipment, power disconnects, and distribution panels for various applications.

  1. Electrical Enclosures

These are cabinets which are used for mounting knobs, displays, and switches. They protect the content from the outdoor environment and also protect the operators from electrical shock. They come with a number of optional accessories like heaters, window kits, drip shield, rain hood, side pans, etc.

These are some of the most commonly used electrical equipment and systems which are used for measuring, monitoring and optimizing electrical parameters. When purchasing, make sure that you search for a reputed manufacturer or seller to ensure that the purchased product delivers the desired functionality with utmost ease and efficiency.
