Races fashion: Designer Viktoria Novak kept busy with orders of one-of-a-kind headpieces

SYDNEY’S queen of crowns Viktoria Novak says fashionistas wanting bespoke one-of-a-kind headpieces for the races are keeping her royally busy.

Racegoers are spending up to 00 on elaborate crowns to wear to the Spring Racing Carnival, with Novak making pieces for more than 200 women for the season.

During the Spring Racing Carnival I block out three months before in my calender and I purely focus on spring racing clients,” Novak told Confidential.

“I individually hand-create every single piece and work six days a week, 12 hours a day.”

Novak says women are splashing out so much on the crowns not just because of how they make them look, but how they make them feel.

“When you wear a crown, it changes something in you,” she explained, “your physique, your attitude, your confidence, and it gives you this positive energy, there’s something special about it.”

Novak said she was relieved to hear about Virgin Australia’s Hat Valet service which transports headpieces in first-class style from Sydney to Melbourne for the carnival.

“To know this is like knowing someone is looking after your baby for you, it’s like a babysitting service,” she said.

“It’s a wonderful feeling because every single piece I create is like a child.”
