Workshop: More To Explore At Fashion Council

Fashion Council of Fiji continues to give more opportunities for its members to explore more about the industry.

Funded by British Council Valuing Voices, the Fashion council organised a one-day workshop yesterday basically to provide education for its members.

Council Secretary Neisau Tuidraki said the mandate of the council was to help its members to be a better designers and stakeholders of the fashion industry.

There were about 30 participants at the workshop including 10 students from the Totoka youth at Nadi.

Ms Tuidraki said the students range from year 11 to tertiary institute who are exploring fashion as a career.

She added that it’s now an exciting time for the industry considering the council’s partnership with Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC), they now offering certificate three and four in fashion and design technology.

“We all about sharing the technical knowledge,” she said.

“We need to give access to our members, to the designers and everyone else who wants to explore fashion as a career.

“There are many facets of the fashion industry, makeup- photography, models but in particular, we want to concentrate on giving access to up and coming students who want to come into fashion design.

“By the time they finish from high school, they know the different institute they can join to study fashion as a career.”

Meanwhile, the council will be launching Fijian Fashion festival next two weeks to give more opportunities to the members and designers to explore and for more exposure, says Ms Tuidraki.

The workshop was held at the Pasifika conference room at Lotus building in Nabua
