Residential window tint is a plastic film which is made from PET, which is also used in water bottles. Most of the films are clear and are made up of many layers of plastic so as to prevent shattering, just like the coating of a car windshield. Whereas others may be tinted with dyes, some pigments use metals in order to reduce the light coming from the window as well as block the harmful UV rays.

These are usually applied on the inner side of the window, and are also scratchproof for making the coating more durable. Window tints are available in the market along with a variety of thicknesses, which depends upon its serving purpose.
Types of Film:

1.Decorative film is the thinnest of the variety. It provides privacy as well as some light blockage. But the main use of this film is to beautify the home. One can easily get the look of stained glass, frosted, or etched without any need to replace a window.

2.Solar film is a bit thicker and contains dyes or metal for darkening the film.

3.Security film is the strongest and thickest among all the window films, essentially turning the windows into safety glass. Apart from storm-prone areas, it also provides protection against the intruders. Instead of the broken glass getting shattered, it spider-webs, hence, making the intruder’s entry into the home more and more difficult.

Home window tint has the following benefits:

•Reduces heat gain

•Blocks up to 99% of the harmful UV rays

•Balances hot/cold spots

•Cuts glare

•Insulates the windows

In addition to energy saving with the help of insulated windows as well as reducing heat gain, it also helps in making the home more comfortable by making the internal temperature balanced. Apart from this, House tinting helps in extending the life of the furnishings and rugs by blocking the UV rays.

Installation and Curing:

Window tint is very easy to install, but it is preferable to hire professionals for doing the work, so that the project is warrantied. Following are the steps for installation and curing of window tints:

•The windows are cleaned.

•An application solution has to be sprayed on the glass as well as the film, and then the film is adhered.

•The film must dry or cure.

•The thicker and darker the tint, the longer it will be taking to cure.

•The insulating and the light-blocking properties are working, even when you may see a large number of bubbles or haze during the process of curing.
