What is a vintage wedding?

A vintage wedding is one that follows a cultural or religious tradition. Vintage weddings are what we all grew up with. They take place in a formal setting or church and involve the bride wearing a long white gown and exchanging traditional vows in front of family and friends. Some people view vintage weddings as an important tradition that gives them a sense of continuity with the past. Traditionally, women have been considered to be the asset of the men they choose to marry. Therefore, a vintage wedding was marked by the woman picking up the husband’s name to symbolize that she belongs to him.

What is a modern wedding?

A modern wedding is usually non religious and allows the couples to choose the venue, vows, and themes. Modern wedding involves breaking away from the tradition and planning a rustic wedding that reflects generation Y couples. Couples who choose modern weddings want to have a wedding ceremony that feels and looks different from what we witnessed from our parents and grandparents. Since they are not religious, modern weddings can be held in any preferred venue such as a beach, hotel, park, or garden. A modern wedding can involve lots of guests that include family or friends, or a simple wedding with few invites present. Today, it is not mandatory for a woman to change their name after the modern wedding ceremony.

Differences between modern vs vintage wedding

Ceremony

A vintage wedding involves having the ceremony conducted in a formal location or church. On the other hand, a modern wedding is normally conducted in informal settings including vineyards, beach or hotel. At the bridal party of a vintage wedding, there are different attendants including the

groomsmen, bridesmen, page boys, flower girls, and the parents of the couples. Usually, the father of the bride will give her out to the groom. In a modern wedding, it is the couples who choose how the event will be. Therefore, they may not follow the traditions of a vintage wedding including the parents giving out the bride. When it comes to bouquet, vintage weddings have well manicured flowers. On the other hand, the bouquet of modern weddings is somewhat wild. Traditionally, newly married couples went for their honeymoon immediately after a vintage wedding ceremony. Today, that has changed in modern weddings where couples have the liberty to postpone their honeymoons to a preferred date.

Patterns and colors

Vintage weddings follow the black and white pattern in weddings attires that has been observed for many years. When it comes to color themes of vintage weddings, it can include bright colors such as red, emerald green, purple or cobalt blue. Modern weddings try to observe simplicity in patterns and style. Therefore, modern weddings try to avoid the lacy and frilly style that characterizes a vintage wedding. Instead, modern weddings use simple but solid colors.

Reception

The reception of vintage weddings is formal with floral centerpieces and tiered wedding cake. The structure of a vintage wedding reception is also formal where the couples will be introduced to the audience with various speeches being made. The reception of a modern wedding has unusual themes with wild centerpiece flowers and a sit down area for guests. Couples can also choose to merge the wedding ceremony together with reception and decorate it the same way.
