Acid Reflux has become a very common problem in people of all ages. The unhealthy lifestyle, especially the unhealthy diet is to be blamed for it. Following a strict diet and avoiding Foods That Cause Acid Reflux, should be struck off from your meals.

High-fat dairy products

All the dairy products have one notorious ingredient called lactose that gets into the nerves of people who suffer from frequent bouts of indigestion. However, the lactose content varies from one dairy product to other. This means not all the dairy products contain the same amount of lactose and even those who have problems with this content usually do not suffer any irritation, with small dosages of lactose. So, do  not worry if you are fond of eating hard cheese or plain Greek Yoghurt, as hard cheese like Swiss or Parmesan are concentrated with lesser amounts of lactose and so also the Greek Yoghurt because the liquid rich in lactose is filtered away in ordinary yoghurt. You must avoid processed cheese or flavoured milks, flavoured yoghurt etc.

Fermented Foods

Some of the fermented foods go smooth on your tummy; others can irritate your gut and cause problems like acid reflux to certain people. For instance fermented foods like wine, miso, yoghurt, pickles, cheese, sauerkraut, vinegar, have a say in the acidic content in your body. Dairy products low in lactose such as yoghurt where milk coupled with bacteria breaks down the lactose and leave behind a healthy substance can be consumed without any hassle. Usually, fermented foods are considered to be wholesome for your gut because of their probiotic quality. Go for fermented foods that lack or contain less amounts of lactose to ease your digestion.

Avoid Blackberries

Blackberries are rich in polyols which is a difficult-to-digest sugar alcohol. Even though they are a rich source of antioxidants, blackberries can cause serious problems if you are sensitive to the polyols.

Corn

Corn in any form, pop corn, polenta, or on-the-cob may not be suitable for your stomach. Most of the people are not very sensitive to whole meal corn or corn tortillas. Even the whole grain polenta is tolerated by many people because of low levels of FODMAPs and on the other hand fresh sweet corn is unhealthy for digestion owing to the high levels of FODMAPs. Pop corn which is one of the most loved snacks contains large chunks of carbs as studies show that per 100 gms of pop corn has 64 gms of carbs, which is a large heap of junk. Adding to this unwholesome heap is trans-fat that makes the digestion all the more difficult.

Caffeine

Coffee and products containing caffeine should be abstained from by those who suffer from acid reflux. Studies have shown that the intake of caffeine ups the ante of suffering from of acid reflux symptoms. This is more common in people who drink a large cup of coffee after their meals. The best way to avoid this acidic problem is to reduce your consumption of coffee or substitute it with decaffeinated coffee. You can also totally forgo coffee for green tea and lemon tea.
