Project Plan

Plan your renovation project well before the execution phase so you will be prepared for any eventuality. Devise the plan with your design and architecture team so that everything is coordinated. All the long-lead materials that you will need should already be sourced and bought in advance.

Behind the walls

An important question to ask is if there are any utility risers that prevent some areas of the wall from being safely knocked down and removed.

Compare and contrast

Study what other homeowners in similar homes have achieved, and what limitations they have come up against. That will allow you to set similar expectations for your kitchen renovation project. It is advisable to invite your building superintendent in meetings for kitchen renovations to see what certain things you can and can’t do. Find out everything relevant about landmark preservation rules in your area, yard setbacks, and local zoning laws.

Children

If there are children in your home, take the time to consider where you are going to store everything in the kitchen. Go for durable and easy-to-clean surfaces, such as stone, wood. Magnetic boards also make for a kid-friendly kitchen.
