Common Guitar Electronic Problems and Repairs

Electric guitars are prone to having some electronic problems. However, it is not always the parts of the guitar that are at fault. At times, it is the wiring that makes your guitar non-functional.

Here are some common problems pertaining to the guitar electronics and their solutions:

Wiring Problems

When the guitar is having problems with the wiring, you will experience the signals cutting.

Signals of the guitar keep cutting: If you are constantly experiencing cutting problems with the guitar, it is because that the soldering is loose somewhere. Every time the wire disconnects because of the loose soldering, you will experience cutting in your playing.

It is common for the solder joints to break especially when the output jack gets loose. You must secure the output jack tightly. Fixing the loose wiring is not a big problem. However, it can be difficult finding the exact wiring that is loose.

Repairing loose solder connections: first you need to check where the problem is. If after plugging the guitar in and toggling all the knobs and switches, it plays fine, you know that there is problem internally.

In case of the non-Stratocaster guitars, you will have to remove the cavity cover at the back of the guitar.

You need to strum the strings and move the wires. When the guitar cuts out, you will come to know about the loose connection.

In case of the Stratocaster style Guitar Parts Canada, ascertaining whether the solders are solid or not have to be checked manually. The pick guard has to be removed and the solders checked.

The loose wires must be re-soldered and the cavity covers or the pick guards must be screwed back.

Pot Problems

Another of the guitar electronics problems is that of crackling of the sound. This is a common problem with the electronic guitars. This has nothing to do with wiring but pertains to the pots.

As you turn the volume knobs or pots, the voice crackles. This is because the pots are dirty or bad. First you must try to clean them. If the problem is because of the dirt, it would be fine once the pots are clean.

You must remove the knobs and spray some cleaner in it. Ensure that the cleaner is thoroughly inside the shaft so that any dirt is removed. Then replace the knob.

You will have to replace the pots, if you still experience the crackling.

Finally

If you are experiencing other guitar electronics problems, it would be better to take your guitar to a proper guitar repairman.

Instead of trying your hand at repairing the Emerson Wiring Harness by yourself and making things worse, it would be better to get professionals to the job.

You can find the best repair person for your guitar by taking references from those that might have experienced similar problems and got their Guitar Cases repaired.

Remember that your guitar is your prized possession and you would not want anything nasty to happen to it. So, trust only a professional for repairing your guitar.
