Most Beautiful Lakes to Visit in Udaipur

The dreamy lakes in the city hold a special place in the heart of every tourist who visits Udaipur. So, when you are in Udaipur, make sure to take out some time to witness the beautiful sight of lakes in the city.

Following are the five lakes that make Udaipur, the city of lakes:

  •  Lake Pichola:

    Lake Pichola is an artificial fresh water lake. Created back in 1362 AD, the scenic lake is surrounded by huge hills, opulent palaces and religious places. Two stunning islands, Jag Niwas & Jag Mandir are located within Lake Pichola. Cruising in Lake Pichola while witnessing the stunning islands is an experience like no other. The breath-taking sunset from boat cruise when the city lit up is a sight that shouldn’t be missed.
  •  Fateh Sagar Lake:

    Named after Maharaja Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar, Fateh Sagar Lake is known to be the pride of the city of lakes. There are three beautiful islands within the confines of Fateh Sagar Lake. The largest one is Nehru Park, the second one has a public park with an impressive water jet fountain, and the last one is the address for the Udaipur Solar Observatory.
  •  Jaisamand Lake:

    Jaisamand Lake, also known as the Dhebar Lake, is the second largest lake of Asia after Bhopal upper lake, the largest artificial lake of Asia. Spread over an area of 87 km, Jaisamand Lake was created in the 17th century when Rana Jai Singh built a dam made of marble across the Gomati River. The dam has the Hawa Mahal Palace, winter capital of the erstwhile Maharanas of Mewar. Three islands on Jaisamand Lake are Baba ka Magra, Piari(the smallest island) and Jaisaimand Wildlife Sanctuary(natural habitat with panther, wild boar, deer, four-horned antelope, mongoose etc.
  • Udaisagar Lake:

    Situated at the distance of about 13kms in the east of Udaipur, Udaisagar Lake is the most picturesque lake amongst the top 5 lakes in Udaipur. Built by Maharana Udai Singh in the year 1565, the lake is 4km in length, 2.5 km in width and 9 meters in depth.
  •  Rajasmand Lake:

    Situated near the town of Rajasmand, Rajasmand Lake is considered to be amongst the tourists’ favorite attractions in the city.  The lake is built across the Gomati, Kelwa and Tali rivers in the 17th century. One of the most stunning visual to witness is the sparkling water at the time of sunset.

It is said that each of these five lakes can invoke a distinct sense of verve within you. So, whenever you are in the city of lakes in Rajasthan, make sure to visit these lakes with your loved ones.
