What is meant by La Concealed Carry?

In 1996 The Louisiana Legislature revised the rules and allowed the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to issue concealed handgun permits all over the state so that citizens could carry a concealed handgun on his or her person to protect him or herself. The person required certain particulars to get the concealed handgun permit.

The Requirements to get a Concealed Handgun Permit

  • The person had to be a resident in the state of Louisiana

  • He had to be 21 years old

  • He had to be a US citizen

  • He had to complete a firearm training course

  • He should not be convicted for a crime of violence for the last five years

  • He should not be convicted of a misdemeanor in Louisiana or any other state in connection with a controlled hazardous substance for the last five years

  • He should not have a permit revoked during the last four years before the recent application

  • During the past year or more he should not be convicted for a crime of violence which is punishable by imprisonment for one year. But a person convicted of violating 18
    U.S.C. 491(a) can be allowed to qualify for concealed handgun permit if 15 or more years have passed.

  • He was not denied a permit for the last year before the present application.

How to get a concealed handgun permit?

To get a concealed handgun permit the applicant should pass training course in the use of a handgun. The courses are held every Saturday from 8 am -6 pm. Those who cannot attend classes so late will be given an alternate schedule on the range on another day. The cost for the first applicant is 5 but for renewals, the applicant will have to pay .

Non-veterans will pay permit fees to Louisiana State Police once approved by them. Veterans do not have to pay for the permit but have to pay only for the class. After you have completed the course you have to apply to the Louisiana State Police for a permit. You can also send an online application to the Louisiana State Police for a concealed handgun permit. When you apply online you will be asked to provide additional documents which include the training certificate. All documents can be photographed with a smartphone with the exception of fingerprints and sent with the online application.

Louisiana Firearms Policy

Louisiana does not have a firearm policy which requires all firearms to be registered. Rifles and shotguns with short barrels, Shotguns, and rifles modified to have a length of less than 26.inches, machine guns, firearms which can be concealed but which have obliterated serial numbers, silencers, mufflers for any firearm have to be registered.

If a Citizen wants a Concealed Carry Louisiana he should apply online in the following manner. Download the concealed handgun permit application and fill in the instructions on pages one and two.

Then get an application from the State Police Headquarters between 8 am – 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday.

Give all the documents which include training certificate, medical summary disposition, arrest disposition, and divorce decrees if required

Fingerprinting can be done at State Police Headquarters for . or at local sheriff’s department or local police office.
