Requirements to Apply for Indian Visa for Medical Treatment

India is well appreciated for providing advanced and world-class medical solutions to people from all corners of the world. Foreign nationals are attracted to Indian medical institutions for the Indian medical professionals here are proficient in their field and offer the best possible services to the patients which are not accessible or available in many other nations. To ensure the safety of Indian territory from frauds, the government of India has introduced various types of visas with prescribed eligibility and procedure. One of the various categories of Indian visa is Medical visa. If someone is looking for a short duration of stay in India i.e. up to sixty days, an e-medical visa can be acquired. While, for a longer duration of medical treatment in India, one is entitled to obtain a regular medical visa.

The applicants are permitted to make triple entry to India in a single year in case they apply forIndian visa online whereas on the regular medical visa they can make multiple entries within the period of validity of the visa i.e. one year or the period of medical treatment, whichever is less. Treatment of the following ailments is allowed on the medical visa- neurosurgery, heart surgery, organ transplant, joint replacement, gene therapy, plastic surgery, renal problems, congenital disorders, radiotherapy, and patients seeking Ayurveda treatment. Apart from the ailments, one must also be well aware of the documents required to obtain an Indian medical visa, any negligence to which can lead to the disapproval of the visa application by the immigration bureau of India. Therefore, let’s go through the requirements along with the visa application to avoid disapproval of Indian medical visa and delay in medical treatment.

1- Passport- Original passport along with one copy of passport information and the signature page is required to be submitted to an Indian consulate or embassy. Passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in India with a minimum of two blank pages for visa stamps.

2- Photo- A current passport type photograph in color print with a plain white background and wearing no glasses are required to be attached with the application. Note that the photo should not be stapled to the application.

3- Medical Documents- The certificate of recommendation from the reputed medical institute in the origin or residence country is mandatory to be submitted.

4- Residential Proof- As proof of state residency, driving license, state-issued ID, utility bill, or a copy of the valid or current lease with the signature of both tenant and landlord are acceptable.

5- Proof of Funds- As a proof of availability of funds that suffice the future medical expenses in India, the applicant is recommended to submit copies of the most recent bank statements.

So, these were the critical documents imperative to be submitted apart from passport copy of attendants and proof of relationship with attendant for the attendant visa. Once visa approval is obtained, the visa holder shall not stay in India for a period beyond the date of expiry of the visa, if done so, he or she can face detention and significant penalty. To avoid the detention, the applicant is advised to apply for the India visa extension as recommended by the appropriate medical center by providing a medical certificate.
