How to Create the Perfect Beach Waves

When looking for the perfect hairstyle that looks both glamorous and effortless, beach waves are the go-to choice.  Beach waves are the perfect look when you are short on time but want to have that pulled together look. With just a few simple products and a curling wand, you can have the beach waves that all the stars are wearing down the red carpet. 

As is the case with most hairstyles, you are going to want to have day-old hair -- this means that it has been, at minimum, one day since you last washed your hair. Slightly oily hair will hold your hairstyle better than freshly washed hair will, so your curls will last far longer. When creating a beach wave look your goal is not perfection; having a few hairs out of place will only add to the overall look. 

With your slightly dirty hair, you are going to want to brush it out and work through a styling crème. Using the right product will give you well-defined waves that will last. Depending on what finish you are looking for, if you prefer a shinier look you can use an oil based product, or if you prefer a more piecey texture you can use a texturizing spray.

Once you have worked the product through your hair, use a wide-barrel curling wand to begin curling your hair. Using two-inch wide sections of hair, brush out each section as you separate it and then curl your hair in alternating directions. The alternating directions will give you that effortless beach look. Continue curling all your hair, leaving the curls tight as they cool. 

After all of your curls have cooled completely, use a paddle brush to gently comb out the curls. The goal with beach waves is not to have perfectly defined Hollywood curls, but to gain an effortless, windswept look. Finish your hairstyle with a strong hold spray so that your look will last. At the end of the day, tie your hair up in a loose bun to hold your curls until the following morning. 

Beach waves are truly one of the most versatile hairstyles, looking gorgeous enough for a night out on the town or for a daytime coffee date. Using just a few key tools, styling crème, a curling wand, and some strong hold spray, you will have the perfect bouncy beach waves.
