Common Infant and newborn problems

The arrival of a newborn baby is often seen as a joy to parents. With the excitement and joy – it also comes with some setbacks and illnesses most times. It is important to know that every child will at some point in time fall ill and would require the parents to figure out precisely what is wrong with the child’s health. It is a known fact that the baby’s immune systems are often more vulnerable to sicknesses when compared to that of an adult. Therefore it is important for parents or caregivers to know the possible illness the little one is likely to face after birth.
 
Here, we would be looking at some common illnesses that newborn babies may likely face.
  1. Jaundice
Jaundice is one of the most common illnesses faced by newborn babies. This type of baby’s illness is noticed a few days after the birth of the baby. This illness can cause severe damages but often goes away with time when properly treated. This illness is as a result of the high bilirubin level since the organs in the baby’s body are still tender and cannot easily handle everything that goes into the body. It is important to make sure that the child gets treated by a qualified physician.
 
  1. Vomiting
Having a baby vomit is a normal occurrence for newborn babies. It is not out of place to see them spit out during or after breastfeeding. It becomes an issue when the baby starts to vomit more frequently than expected. To prevent this incessant vomiting, there is a need to find out if the child is allergic to the breastmilk. It is also essential to burp the child after breastfeeding, to prevent frequent vomiting.
 
 
  1. Common Cold
Common cold is another most common illnesses face by newborn babies. Children are more prone to cold during winter period than summer periods. Ensure to keep the child warm always at night and during a cold seasons.
 
 
  1. Skin problem
Newborn babies often have a very soft skin that is so sensitive to touch and reaction. It is most common for the child to face skin problem often. Proper attention should be paid to changes in the skin texture.
 
  1. Respiratory problem
It takes a baby few hours to start breathing normally after delivery, but once they get acclimatize to the environment, their breathing tends to stabilize. When you notice that the child is not breathing properly, check the nostrils and make sure to remove any item that is blocking or limiting the breathing. If not consult your doctor.
