5 Places to Dine with Characters at the Disney Resorts

Posted by Jennifer Blaske on May 30th, 2019

When people plan their Disney World trip, they usually focus on the parks, but there's a lot to enjoy in the resorts as well. Even if you're not staying on-property, you can visit any resorts you like during your trip. (You just can't use their pools.)

One way to experience a resort is to eat at one of their restaurants. Here are five resort restaurants that specificallly offer character meals:

1. 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's Grand Floridian, located on the Magic Kingdom monorail loop, is one of the most expensive resorts in Disney World. It has a pianist in the lobby and a huge gingerbread house during the Christmas season.

At the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast you get to meet Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, The Mad Hatter, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh.

At Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner, you'll meet Cinderella and Prince Charming, plus Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella (ie, Cinderella's evil stepmother and stepsisters).

The Polynesian is another beautiful (and expensive) resort located on the monorail loop. The Best Friends Breakfast includes the usual fare, like scrambled eggs and Mickey waffles, but also Hawaiian pork sausages and Hawaiian-style ham with pineapple compote.

You'll meet Lilo & Stitch, plus Pluto and Mickey Mouse, dressed in Hawaaian outfits.

(Note that Ohana has a character meal at breakfast, not at dinner.)

Chef Mickey's is a love-it-or-hate-it type place. Its big selling point is that you get to meet the "Fab Five" of Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald Duck. The downside is that it's noisy, the food isn't anything special, and the theming isn't that intereresting. (Although you do get the monorail running overhead.)

While Chef Mickey's has character meals all day long, if you do go, I suggest you go for breakfast. Not only is it cheaper, but I have heard that the food at dinner is not good.

4. Cape May Cafe at Disney's Beach Club Resort

The Beach Club Resort boasts "New England Charm" and is walking distance from Epcot.

At Cape May Cafe you'll meet Minnie Mouse "and friends," which are almost always Goofy and Donald & Daisy Duck. They'll be wearing coloring, sailor-style outfits.

Like Ohana, Cape May Cafe only has has characters during breakfast time.

5. Bon Voyage Character Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
Disney's Boardwalk Inn is a waterfront hotel near Epcot where you can experience the "charm and whimsy of turn-of-the-century Atlantic City."

Unlike the other character meals, the Bon Voyage Breakfast is not a buffet, but a meal where you order off the menu.

You'll meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, plus Ariel and Prince Eric.

I have more details and some photos in my article about Where to Get Breakfast in and Near Epcot.
