Surprised! Isn’t it insane how on one hand we’re facing dearth of talent and on the other side we see people crying out loud for these skills to be filled in. Indeed, a job site speculates that machine learning engineer and their related technologies is deemed as one of the best jobs this 2019, owing to in-demand and high salary compensation.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning is becoming an important competitive differentiator in recent times as companies are now understanding the importance of these technologies. But there still remains a question, how great will the technology bring an impact to the industries? And once you’ve identified the technology’s potential, what do you do? Do you buy it or implement it? This is still one big question we need to tackle.

Well, I believe some great organizations are already doing pretty great by transforming their businesses using artificial intelligence. Airbnb, Lyft, LinkedIn, and Uber have specifically mentioned that they have come down to terms of building their own AI solutions. Most importantly, they have been successful and came up with great results.

Although it seems fine for these tech companies in the Silicon Valley since they are armored with tons of resources to build their own solutions. But what happens to the rest of us? Doesn’t that sound utopian.

Well, the good news is, transforming of AI can have plenty to share from other non-traditional companies like Johnson & Johnson, Otis, Schneider Electric, and Raytheon etc.

Despite companies turning to implement artificial intelligence and machine learning for them to improve businesses and to boost customer experience, there is still a confusion that is prevalent, says a report by CompTIA. The report also says that a mere 29% of the companies are making use of AI regularly, which is quite saddening. And although the percentage rate uplifted 5% points since 2017, the numbers are comparatively still low. Imagine, 19% of the companies mentioned to have expert knowledge and 29% mentioned saying their knowledge on AI is moderately high.

Understanding and trying to bridge this gap is still a challenge with the market anticipating to grow .8B by 2022 from .4B in 2017. To be precise, an investment in a career in artificial intelligence would be a wise approach today.

Machine learning - most in-demand AI skill

No doubt about machine learning to be the most in-demand AI skill. With job roles, such as an AI engineer that is being hunted down by companies leaves one at a competitive edge. By 2020, AI to eliminate 1.8 million jobs and create 2.3 million jobs subsequently. The demand growth for skilled expert professionals in AI has already hit itself in the job market. Employers and recruiters will be flooding around the job market is search for an AI engineer or maybe talent with AI skills – machine learning engineer, data scientists, computer vision engineer are some of the in-demand AI job roles.

With demand outpacing the supply, a career in artificial intelligence is a smart move towards a competitive job market.

The other AI skills are Python and R programming, Hadoop, Data Science, Java, Big Data, Data Mining, Spark, and SAS. Acquiring these skills as an AI engineer can help employers choose their engineer for their company.

As AI continues to see an influx of machine learning models and machine learning as a service that offers to help teams integrate AI, it comes as no surprise that the market is facing big skills bottleneck. With more and more companies looking to integrate AI, we will be able to see more predictions that will come true.
