                                 INTERNET OF THINGS

What is the Internet of things ?

Internet of Things or IOT refers to the billions of devices around the world now connected to the internet which are collecting and sharing data. IOT adds a level of digital intelligence to the devices that would be otherwise dumb,

Enabling them to communicate real time-data without humans.

How big is the Internet of things?

There are more connecting things than the people in the world it is big and getting Bigger.Analyst calculated that around 8.4 billion IoT devices were in use in 2017, it was 31 percent up from 2016, and this will approx reach 20.4 billion by 2020.

Out of that 8.4 billion devices, more than half are consumer products like TVs and smart speakers. The most-used enterprise IoT devices will be smart commercial security cameras.

Internet of things and Business

Manufacturers are using sensors in their products so that they can transmit back data about how they are performing. This can help companies spot when a component is likely to fail and to swap it out before it causes damage. This would help to prevent damage.

Enterprise use of the IoT can be divided into two types: industry-specific offerings like sensors in a generating plant or real-time location devices for healthcare; and IoT devices that can be used in all industries, like smart AC and camera for security.

What about Internet of things security?

There is always a question with the security of IoT. These sensors are collecting in many cases extremely sensitive data -- what you say or do at your home, IoT's security track record has been extremely poor. Too many IoT devices give little thought to the basics of security, like encrypting data in transit and at rest.

The IoT jains the gap between the digital world and the physical world, which means that hacking into devices can have dangerous real-world consequences. Hacking the sensors controlling the temperature in a power station could trick the operators into the great damage or suffering  taking control of a driverless car could also end in disaster.

Future of Internet of things

The future of internet of thing is virtually unlimited due to advances in technology and consumer’s desire to integrate devices such as smartphones with household machines.

IOT is believed to change the entire way people communicate, work and live. Now there will be connectivity for everything in the world and every where in the world. And this will be available for all !!

According to NASSCOM, the global market size of IOT is expected to touch USD 3 trillion by 2020. startups are playing an important role in enabling IOT services in the consumer as well as the industrial segment. In India, there are more than 60 percent of start-ups working on the lines of IOT with their highly technical and technological skills.

IOT proves to have a huge scope as it provides a unique opportunity for businesses to turn data into insights.
