Soft tissue fillers in Dermatology are used for aging skin and are often used in combinations or with other techniques for facial rejuvenation. Filling substances commonly used are Collagen, hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxy-apatite, autologous fat, poly -L -lactic acid etc.

How do soft tissue fillers work?

A filler substance is injected beneath the surface of the skin where it corrects the line or wrinkle by temporarily plumping or smoothing out the skin depression.

Which Areas Can be Treated?

Fillers can be used to smooth out facial lines, create fuller lips and shape facial contours such as cheek and chin.

How Long Does Improvement Last?

This depends on the type of fillers used, the areas treated and ability of the patient’s skin to absorb materials. Results are long lasting generally with maintenance treatments performed after 3-6 months. Occasionally touch –up treatments are needed sooner.

Are there any possible risks?

Soft tissue fillers are generally considered safe and effective. Apart from an allergic reaction to the injected substance, side effects are few and typically due to local injection and include slight redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and/or bruising.

Can fillers be used if I had laser or chemical peel?

If you have recently had some kind of cosmetic treatment, it recommended you wait until the area is totlally healed and the skin is back to it s normal condition. This usually takes 4-6 weeks.

Are There Any Contra-indication?

Should not be used or near skin sites where there are or have been active skin disease, inflammation or related conditions, nor it should be injected into the area where a permanent implant has been placed.
