A school trip can be fun, exciting and incredibly educational. It is a great learning tool with which students can gain hands-on practical experience on the topics they learn about in textbooks. School trips can help them understand facts better and apply their knowledge in the real world. Here are a few tips to help prepare students for a school trip:

  1.       Discuss the Purpose of the Trip

Give your students a clear idea of the purpose of an educational school trip. It can help prepare them for what exactly to expect on the field trip as well as come prepared with the necessary information required. For example, if you are planning to take them to a natural history museum, then they can come prepared with details specific to the topic.

  1.       Give Them Details of the Place

Make sure you refer to the field trip often in the days before it takes place to energise the class and familiarise them with the place they will be visiting. Give them specific details about the place and about what they can expect to learn from there. Inform them about the unique aspects of the place. It will whet their appetite for the excursion. In case, you have booked one of the school tour packages, inform all the pertinent details to the students and parents.

  1.       Brainstorm with Them

Getting the class involved in helping plan the trip can help them be more excited and energised for it. Ask for their opinion regarding certain key points and make sure you brainstorm to arrive at the ideal solution.  You can assign roles to each student where they can study a different chapter or topic and then group them into different areas during the field trip. You can even decide what kind of activities or assignments can be conducted or assigned.

  1.       Brief the Chaperones

Ensuring proper supervision is key to planning a school trip. All the chaperones must have valid identification and should be informed on all the safety rules and guidelines. Students must also be made aware of any dress codes and code of conduct applicable at the place.

Educational trips can have a transformational effect on learning if organised well. You can use these recommended methods to help students prepare for a school trip.
