GRE General Test is a three hour examination. The test centers are scattered all over the world. It is typically a computer based test in the United States, Canada and other countries, but paper format is also made available in places where the computer is not readily available. The aim of GRE is to test a candidate's verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills.

There are three major segments in the GRE General Test. Each is allotted specific time limit that cannot be exceeded. They are three different papers that have to be attempted within the three hours.

The final score is the total of the scores received in the three sections. The score is not only determined by the number of questions correctly answered but also the level of difficulty of the questions answered. The writing preparation practice tests will supply lots of ideas in the writing task one and inspire you with opinions in the task two. Remember, you can think about the many possible variations of these topics, while you have some free thinking time, for example, on the way to work or college. You can plan your writing and collect useful vocabulary and phrases for the writing topic before you attempt the task.
