5 benefits that only a good lawyer can bring to the company

Worth a clarification first. Language is used to communicate ideas and concepts that may be subject to various interpretations depending on the recipient. Sometimes it is said that the message once transmitted ceases to belong to its sender and the receiver appropriates it, it can even give the interpretation that is most convenient; however, we would all agree that whoever expresses an idea necessarily has an intention, wants to convey something.

When we express ideas that qualify an object or fact, the same thing happens. It is possible to reach a consensus on the meaning of some qualifiers; however, that agreement is usually diluted at the pragmatic level, for example, in a debate or controversy.

Thus, when we say that a university is a "good school" some will mean that they have spacious and comfortable facilities; others, who have good teachers, and some more that their educational plans are demanding and have the effect of training their students well. There will be those who are even thinking that it brings together all or most of those qualities.

The same happens when we refer to complex organizations as a law firm. Sometimes we want to say that the office is good for the level of its facilities and furniture; others because the lawyers that make it up have a prestige and win the trials or defend them with professionalism.

Well, for a law firm to be considered good, in the sense that the client is interested, it must be analyzed if it meets the necessary conditions to attribute that characteristic to it. In the case of the company, there are five, at least, the benefits that only a good lawyer can bring:

  • Prevention of unnecessary risks. The company lawyer must know his client's business well to understand the gaps where the seed of the conflict is sown. It is true that where there is risk there is an opportunity, but there are valuable risks and there are other unnecessary ones; The lawyer should take care of removing the seconds.
  • Adaptation to the legal order. Companies are complex entities that are subject to multiple regulations. The Philadelphia Federal Appeals Attorney must be prepared to understand the regulatory scheme to which the client's company is subject and conform to it. Experience plays an important role at this point, because knowing how the client's business is generated and developed allows us to better understand the meaning of the applicable regulations.
  • Formality in business. The form sometimes becomes background. It is the case of legal business. In the daily operation of the company, formal aspects are often forgotten that in the end probably represent conflicts or weaknesses that may even put the entire business at risk. The lawyer takes care of the forms and must know which are the most appropriate according to the turn of the company.
  • Security for the client. Knowing that we are doing things well and that the risks to which we are exposed are minor gives us certainty and security. It is not the same to conduct business without advice, than to do it accompanied by a good lawyer. In another sense, the so-called business ethics is something that today worries companies a lot and places new burdens on merchants. Failure to comply with the so-called compliance and anti-corruption policies can have serious consequences for the employer; therefore, good legal advice in this area is of vital importance and offers certainty to the entrepreneur because he knows he is doing well.
  • Prestige for the seriousness in the conduct of business. A well-informed person is a person who usually decides better and it is precisely the accumulation of good decisions that makes up the prestige of companies. In the business world, seriousness helps build prestige over the years. Those who are usually accompanied by good lawyers when conducting trade acts are entrepreneurs who show seriousness and make good names in their midst.

Of course, this is an arbitrary classification, as they are all, but I think that it shows the main contributions of a good lawyer to the company. It is, therefore, an unfinished list, which only intends to initiate a discussion on the benefits that the lawyer must bring to the company, resulting from years of experience advising various clients.
