Ingredients for Idli Sambar Recipe

  • For Idli
  • Soft poha
  • Rawa/suji
  • Curd or buttermilk
  • Bakig Soda
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Oil

For Sambar

For boiling Sambar:

  • Toor dal
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil

Vegetables:

  • Chopped eggplant
  • Dices carrots
  • Drumsticks
  • Chopped tomato
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Sambar powder
  • Powdered jiggery
  • Red chili powder

For Tadka:

  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Hing/asafetida
  • Curry leaves
  • Tamarind

Instructions for Poha Idli Recipe

Start with soaking the poha in curd for 10 minutes, till it turns soft. Now mash the poha properly using your hands or spoon. Pour 1.5 cups of rawa in the same along with buttermilk and water for the pouring consistency. Keep it for rest for 10 minutes. Now add salt and pinch of baking soda. Adjust the water according to the consistency.

You will see the batter turning frothy. Now take the idli plates and brush the holes with oil. Slowly pour the batter in the same. Now allow it to steam for 10 minutes. Once you take them out, keep it aside for 5 minutes and then unmold it from the plate. For idli sambar recipe, let’s switch to sambar now.

Instructions for Sambar Recipe

You need to start with taking a pressure cooker and add the rinsed dal along with turmeric powder, salt and 3 cups of water. Let it cook for 5 whistles in medium flame. Once the pressure releases naturally, open the lid and mash the mixture properly. Meanwhile, you need to soak tamarind in hot water and let it rest for 10 minutes.

 Take another pan and heat oil on the medium flame. Once the oil is hot, add all the vegetables mentioned in the ingredients and stir fry them for 5 minutes. Do not forget to add salt as well. Add water after that let it boil. While it is boiling, add jiggery powder, soaked tamarind powder and samba powder. Now add this mixture in the dal, and mix it well.

It’s time for prepare tadka now. Heat the oil on the low flame and add the mustards seeds and asafetida along with curry leaves. Transfer this tadka in the dal and mix it well. Let it cook for 6 minutes and serve this delicious recipe of idli sambar together.
