Why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Is a Highly Recommended Fitness Regimen

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a popular sport and one of the most practiced variant of mixed martial arts, is loved by many around the world. But the sport did not get its fanfare out of nowhere. People have many reasons to love it. In fact, if you are not practicing this martial art, you would probably enjoy it as a fitness routine.

Below is a list of reasons why BJJ is likely to be a favourite workout of yours:

(1) It is stimulating

Beyond physically stimulating your body, BJJ also excites your mind. As you grapple, attempt to lock an opponent or escape their grasp, your mind races and adrenaline surges through your body. The more experienced fighters find this flight-fight response particularly exhilarating that despite the exhaustion, they can't wait to do another round with a worthy opponent.

(2) It instills discipline

No matter how talented you are as a fighter, if you do not follow the rules of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, then you're not likely to win against your opponent. Winning is not so much on talent as it is about discipline and finding the right groove. Real fighters know when to strike and when to pull back. This type of sport is not heavily defined by the weight of your muscles but by how well you put theory into application while respecting your opponent's strength at the same time.

(3) It can be customised

Though BJJ has its own rules, the good thing about it is that you can develop your own style. It's not entirely black and white. There are times when you need to improvise without letting go of discipline. With BJJ, you can discern for yourself which combinations are effective against certain types of opponents and which ones are not. The caveat is you need to be extra sensitive to movement patterns, otherwise it would be difficult to come up with your own BJJ fighting style.
