Indian diet is primarily plant-based and as high as 80% of the total population follows it. This fact might increase your curiosity as to why this diet plan is in high demand.

Some of the main reasons it is a top choice among the people of the country are:

  1. The Indian diet is composed of plant-based nutrients. They are derived from a wider range of fruits and vegetables like spinach, mango and other green vegetables.

  2. It is extremely low in unsaturated fats and yet enough to meet the daily needs of the human body.

  3. They are rich in fibre and other nutrients like protein, calcium, carbs and phosphates.

It is not that meat consumption is banned in the nation but people yet prefer lentils, vegetables and fruits to get their daily balanced diet. The consumption of meat is low here but yes it is always a part of the food menu.

Indian Diet Plan For Weight Loss

Without wasting any other minute of your reading time, let’s go directly to the food items that an Indian plant-based diet plan has. And also get to know the food groups it includes.

The fact that the Indian diet is enriched with food items like green vegetables, lentils, fruits, grains, healthy fats and dairy products as well has never been a secret. One can even say that these food groups together complete the Indian diet plan.

The Components Of The Indian Diet Plan:

Majorly the diet plan consists of lentils or pulses, vegetables and fruits, grains and healthy fats.

Now, for those who are wondering what kind of fat is called healthy fat, when the whole idea is to lose fat. Don’t worry about your time invested, we have got the right answer for you.

A human body is made of several components like protein, carbs, fat and others. It has to have these to function as it is supposed to be.

Yes, we know that you want to lose your extra body weight which is majorly contributed by fat. But that does not mean that you have to get rid of your body fat completely. You need to lose hold of extra body weight and that implies extra fat which has accumulated so far. This extra fat is primarily because of the saturated fats which have collected as the breakdown of this particular type is slow. On the other hand, the healthy fats or the ones your needs are the unsaturated ones and they can be disgested easily. Losing all of your body weight was never a suggestion and it should not be either.

Now, when getting rid of accumulated ones is in progress, it is important that you provide some healthy ones to your body as required. This can be done by using cooking oil with healthy fats in it like coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Used in the right amount, these oils can help balance the amount of good fat in the body.

Moving forward to the flavours of an Indian diet plan. The first thing that comes to mind is spices. Spices are the major elements that provide the well-known taste of Indian food. These spices commonly include turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, cumin and ginger.

Each of them has its own benefit for being considered fit for consumption. Let’s take the example of turmeric. It has several properties like it is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and helps prevent cancer too.  These set of properties of turmeric are helpful because of the compound called curcumin which has been found beneficial to beat inflammation in the body. It is also helpful in improving brain function and reducing the risk of cardiac problems.

Turmeric is just one of the spices, and the others also hold equally good benefits. Taking another important flavour from the Indian shelf we have ginger. It is rich in a bioactive compound called gingerol which is majorly responsible for the medicinal properties of the food item. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well.

Every other component that is a part of the Indian diet plan has health benefits of its own and they all keep your immune and digestive system in good shape. So, next time when someone says why to choose an Indian diet plan seems you can answer that really well.
