Posted by Matt on November 5th, 2019

Cross-browser testing is evolving as a whole each and every month just like all the other domains that have strong communication with technology and devices. The change occurs due to changes in user behaviour and the fact that more and more browsers and devices become strong contenders and have to be looked into. The smartphone industry has had a noticeable increase going from 10% in 2011 to almost 36% in 2018, bringing with it the need for cross-browser screenshot web testing. On top of that we also have Smart Watches that need to be tested along with VR \ Ar gear. All of the above shape trends and we have compiled the most important ones for 2019.

Real Device Cloud Testing

While smartphone use has skyrocketed it does not mean that all devices are upgraded to the latest operating systems. As an example , almost 20% out of the Apple users run older versions and roughly 70 million devices are still using iOS8. This trend creates the need of testing on actual devices thus the need to implement the test early and often principle. A tool used for testing with 2000 browsers on real devices proves to be the optimum approach in order to ensure results that are consistent with older devices.

Preparing for Newer Technologies Through Automations

Automated testing can turn problematic in the future, while manual testing became an antiquated practice. 75 billion devices with software are expected to be installed by 2025, The plethora of devices forces companies to embrace AI and machine learning in order to fulfill testing needs. As the number of devices continues to rise automation will ease scaling needs and offer a higher quality experience.

Early Development for Headless Testing

Headless testing gained popularity as of 2019 due to time constraints that occur in the development cycle. Browsers that do not have GUI enabled can be tested using headless testing.
