Why You Should Have Your Mattress Cleaned

After a hectic day, one thing you should be able to look forward to is the comfort of your bed. Daily rest, recuperating after a horrid afternoon, cuddling up with your significant other at night- the bed is the one place where you’re meant to get rejuvenated, in readiness for the following day. For a good night’s sleep, fluffy pillows, clean sheets and pillowcases are part and parcel of the process. By default, these are regularly cleaned. While the beddings get laundered at least on a weekly basis, the mattress gets put on the backburner. When did you last have yours cleaned?

Cleaning the sheets is part of routine hygiene. However, when they are stained, have soiling or there was a urine accident, the mattress is not immune. It would have to be stain- and dirt-proof, which it isn’t. As such, it also needs to be cleaned. Here are reasons why:

  1. You spend a third of your life in bed

With 8 hours of sleep each night, that amounts to a third of life spent curled up on the cosy mattress. Add to this the sick-days where you lay in the sheets for most of the day, and those lazy afternoons where you’re not in the mood of leaving the bed. You want to be comfortable in your bed, not keep on tossing and turning because of the gunk that is int it.

  1. The state of the mattress affects the quality of sleep

You should be able to lay back and calmly drift off into the night, not keep getting nauseated because of the odours that are emanating from the soiled mattress. You can barely catch a decent night of rest when the mattress is infested by bed bugs. When there are blood or urine stains on it, you wouldn’t even want to get into bed in the first place. A clean mattress affects the ambience if the room, including the air quality. These are vital for you to relax and rest on your bed- which is its core mandate.

  1. A dirty mattress is an ecosystem of its own

As you nuzzle in for the night, you will be sharing the bed with millions of dust mites, and lots of little insects that are scrounging around for food.   Organic residue that is in the mattress, from the dead skin cells that are naturally shed by the human body, to those food crumbs from snacks that were being eaten while in bed, provide the nourishment needed for the creatures calling your mattress their home. Coupled with the warmth that is provided, they will have found a nice habitat for them to grow and thrive. Their populations will continue increasing until a thorough mattress cleaning is carried out.

  1. Avoiding health issues

Spending hours in bed inhaling copious amounts of allergens is determinantal to your health- and there are loads of them in the dirty mattress. These range from the faecal residue left behind by dust mites and insects, to everyday dust that accumulates on the bedding and mattress, plus aspects like fur and dander, for those households that allow their furry members to curl up on the bed as well. Allergic reactions like coughs and sneezing, irritated respiratory tracts and itchy skin, watery eyes and a depressed immune system- these are not conditions that you want your family members to be exposed to.

  1. Getting rid of odours

No one likes to climb onto a stinky mattress. The odours come from different sources, from the retained moisture and sweat that cause accelerated growth of bacteria, to the decaying organic matter. Pungent smells from urine spots on the mattress will even be detected the moment you walk into the room. Odour neutralisation is part of the professional mattress cleaning process. Here, powerful agents are used to make the molecules of the smell inert. With the source of the odour also having been removed in the process, you get to hop onto a clean and fresh mattress for that cosy night of rest that you desire.

  1. Stain removal

Mistakes happen. Perhaps you were enjoying a movie while in bed and accidentally spilt some food. It could have been a wine spill during a nightcap. Maybe it was during the morning rush as you prepared for work, and left the nail polish opened while on the bed, causing it to spill its contents. With toddlers, urine on the bed is expected. Body fluids from those steamy couple nights also contribute to the staining. It can even be the after-effects of a wild night out, where one ends up vomiting in bed.  Whichever the case, you want the spots to be got rid of. The professional mattress cleaning team have the formulations and systems needed to remove the stains that have riddled your unit.

  1. Protecting your mattress

Mattresses don't come cheap. Be it a foam mattress, innerspring unit, airbed, latex mattresses or the hybrid designs, you don’t want to see the amount you spent on it going down the drain. Failing to have the mattress properly cleaned and maintained drastically reduces its lifespan, meaning that you will have to go back into your pocket to purchase a new one sooner than expected.
